About
There are artists who fill walls, and then there are artists who create portals of energy.

About the artist

You walk into Erik Skoldberg’s studio and the first thing that hits you is not quiet. It is motion. Color stacked on color.

I’m loyal — my family first, my two boys, the people around me. I surf, I skate, I snowboard, I ride motorcycles, I chase the ocean and I travel as much as I can. We’re small ants in this fast changing world. So I make bright, fun, uplifting, energetic statement, huge pieces so people can take home a little bit of me and bring that energy into their home.

I’m collected by visionaries and taste-makers, yes. But more importantly, my work lives and breathes in people’s homes, in the rooms where they wake up, where they gather, where life actually happens. That tells you everything. What I offer isn’t decoration, it’s a frequency. If you’re drawn to it, it’s probably because you were already tuned in to it.

UrbanKinetic

Each piece in the Urban Series is a bold, vibrant statement, characterized by a fearless interplay of color, texture, and form. The abstract layering technique allows colors to bleed, merge, and emerge in unexpected ways, creating a sense of movement and energy that captures the chaotic beauty of urban life. My experience was passed down from my mother, a fine arts educator. This lineage of expertise infuses my work with a disciplined yet innovative spirit, blending technical precision with creative freedom. The result is a series that feels both timeless and contemporary, paying homage to the traditions of fine art while pushing the boundaries of abstract expressionism. Each piece is a vibrant declaration of my artistic vision, crafted with unparalleled skill and a deep reverence for the transformative power of art.

IconReverent

My Icon Collection reimagines timeless legends layered over my urban series with relentless texture, thickness, and shifting hues—painting, scraping, and stripping away parts of the figure again and again so the raw backdrop burns through and the icon lives forever.

Studio Floor 2020 by Erik Skoldberg — the canvas taken up off the barn floor after hundreds of layers of acrylic had been painted on top of it
The floor
So say I do 30, 40 pieces… I do all of my pieces on top of this. And whatever happens to it happens to it, but it’s got over 700 layers.

I lift one, date it, and it becomes a work in its own right.

Painted on the barn floor

Studio FloorDevoted

One Canvas. One Year. One Legacy.

Each Studio Floor piece begins with an untouched canvas spread flat across my studio. Over the course of 12 months, that canvas becomes an emotional palimpsest. By year’s end, it contains over 700 layers of intuitive movement, color response, and evolving rhythm. There is only one Studio Floor piece released annually. It cannot be replicated. It is never repeated.

These are not derivative echoes of other works. They are living time capsules that encode the entire creative arc of a year. Capturing spills of layers, brush, palette overspray, and pigment experiments from every painting created that year.
